Still Point Garden

静点の庭

Manhattan, NY

On one side of this rooftop garden sits the Cube Arbor, a contemporary version of a Japanese teahouse. On the other side is a terrace of large hexagonal granite slabs surrounded by bamboo. In the center, linking the two sides, is the Still Point Garden, a contemporary ‘karesansui’ garden.

Traditional karesansui gardens are reflections of nature seen through the lens of Buddhism and Daoism. This garden uses the same simple natural materials but centers on the theme of singularity, a point at which a confluence surges toward infinity.
