Omega Point

オメガ・ポイント

Daigoji Temple, Kyoto, Japan

In the year 2000, the temple Daigoji was chosen as the site for the Kyoto Arts Festival. Founded in the 9th century, this Shingon Buddhist temple is well known for its five-story pagoda, which is the oldest wooden structure in Kyoto prefecture. Omega Point was chosen from among more than 260 proposals to be one of eight works installed at Daigoji for the festival and was further selected as the Grand Prize winner that year.

The arrangement of the Greek letter omega in front of the pagoda has many symbolic inferences, including a reference to the Omega Point concept of the Jesuit priest, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.
