B-Residence

Darien CT

This property contains several pocket gardens built over a period of years: a courtyard garden with water basin and lantern, a hillpath garden, a grass garden, a Buddha court, and a sitting garden with a view of the inlet.

Many of the gardens contain stone elements that were brought back by the clients from their travels to Japan — in particular the lantern made of taiko-seki and the water basin carved from an 18th century stepping stone.
The garden also contains many interesting gates and fences made from unusual materials such as thinly-planed woven wooden slats, alternating bound planks, slender natural timbers, and willow stems.
